Video Introduction

ActivateActivate!

Is a site where you can play games AND you can learn to make them, too. The games on Activate! are about getting active and solving problems on your street, in your town, and in the world. By making games about them, the systems underlying issues such as energy conservation, solar power, environmental conservation, and pollution are revealed. Who knows? Maybe playing and making games about these important issues can help us deal with them in the real world!

In the game design challenges on Activate! you’ll learn how to design games from the ground up using Game Maker, a sophisticated tool used by many serious game designers. In addition to learning the tools, you’ll learn how to think like a game designer—prototyping and testing your ideas until you have a polished, playable, and FUN game.

Activate! was made possible through support from the AMD Foundation’s Changing the Game initiative. The curriculum and website were designed by PETLab at Parsons The New School for Design. Email petlab@parsons.edu for more information.
